As I check out various church websites, I notice that fewer and fewer seem to have any type of Chemical Recovery Ministry yet the statistics show very clearly that drug an alcohol abuse are on the rise. Why is it that there appears to be no plan for a ministry to help and educate those struggling with substance addiction within our Churches. What is lacking? As our children grow up and attend school they are being confronted with drug use every day.

Our kids are being tempted to smoke, use alcohol, marijuana, meth and ecstacy in school alone to say nothing of any parties they may be attending. As a recovering addict myself, I have made a point of talking to my sons about my mistakes on a regular basis and making sure that I am being a listening, approachable father that they can talk to about anything.

I am concerned that if we are not making this a priority of any kind in our churches that we are going to see many of our youth lured away by the lies that drugs and alcohol provides. I would love to hear some responses on this. Tell me if you have a CR ministry in your Church and how or what is it doing to address these concerns? Is there a CR deacon in your congregation? What is the plan to keep your kids away from drugs and alcohol abuse?

Hey bro,

We need a chemical recovery grp here in Spokane, WA. Our church is small, but in need. I have been attending Celebrate Recovery at non-affiliated churches just to have people in my life who are struggling with addictions like myself. I have maintained sobriety, but at the cost of listening to unbiblical doctrins of other churches. I see so much need in my area! Since the Seattle Church is hundreds of miles from me, attending their CR group is out of the question. I am open to suggestions anytime. Thank you

Hey Jeff,

Thanks for the reply. If you can raise an interest for the group where you are, we have folks in NY who would be more than willing to come there and speak to the Church and help set the Ministry up. Two brothers just came back from teaching and preaching in Amman, Jordan where they wanted a CR ministry set up.
