why call yourself a 'sold out disciple'? why not just 'disciple'?

Why do some say they are a BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN? Weren't we reborn the moment we came up out of the waters of baptism? isn't this true of all true disciples? isn't Christian and Disciple one and the same? isn't baptized and born again the same thing? isn't the extra label 'Born Again Christian' superfluous.

sold out - reminds me of when you go to a store but can't buy what you want because they ran out... or....
like when a really good underground band puts out their newest album and it sounds awfully generic and ready for TOP 40 airplay - bands like this have been said to have 'sold out'...

Most disciples I know wouldn't add a label like 'born again Christian' or 'sold out disciple'. Yet, they are truly Jesus' disciples (Jn 8:31-32) even w/out the label that either supposedly authenticates or merely divides.

My wife left me when I became a disciple. She was VIOLENTLY opposed to me studying the bible. Others I know prior to their baptism, showing their repentance, moved out of their homes because they were living w/ someone they weren't married to. There are so, so many examples like these that I personally know.

Repent and be baptized. Love the Lord w/ all your heart, mind, soul, strenth

To become a disciple you must crucify your sinful nature (Gal 5:24), carry your cross daily (Lk 9:23) and all that good stuff. When you follow Jesus. Jesus makes you into a fisher of men. (Mk 1:17) so if you aren't fishing for men, then you are probably not following Jesus or Jesus is a liar.

Mt 12:30 Here's a good one.

He who is not w/ me is against me and he who does not gather w/ me scatters.

Some might add a label such as 'Born Again Christian' or 'Sold Out Disciple', but I find this to merely be superfluous.

It's almost as bad as when churches segegrate themselves from other churches by race.

Fred Gray (Civil Rights Movement) in an interview w/ Douglas Jacoby at the end of this video said,

"Whatever prohibits us from being one in mind, one in spirit, one in doctrine, we need to do away w/ it... Jesus died that we might all be one and we need to be one"

I agree with you bro. We dont need labels to authenticate us being a true disciple. For me, if we learn in our character, how to love like Christ and if we hold on to his teachings, that will show that we are Christ disciples.

"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."   John 13:34-35.

"To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples." John 8:31

"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." 1 Cor 13:13

Let us become more like Jesus. Smile
