I think the option is there so that people can feel completely comfortable and safe before revealing personal information about themselves. People may keep their profiles pivate for various reasons. Anyone can access this site -- not just members of the church. This may include ex-members who want to check things out discreetly and only connect with select people. Also, many of the members are young teens. It can be a little strange for adults to "network" with young teens outside of their ministries. As I said, there may be many reasons people keep their profiles private and it's a good thing that they have that option if they want to use it.

If you want to view someone's profile that is private all you have to do is request to be their friend and they can add you. Or you can instant message them to communicate. There are other options as well.
