What do we believe about disciples receiving mental health services?

-Is it the same as seeing a physician, since the Bible doesn't talk in detail about either modern medical or mental health

issues, and thereby acceptable?

-Is every last disciple currently equipped with the scriptures  specifically on how to handle  childhood trauma, chemically

imbalanced, and or psychotic breaks?

-Is it a lack of faith in God to seek help from an ungodly, philosophical, atheistic practitioner?

-Would it make a difference if the mental health professional was Christian oriented or even a disciple

or

would such a practitioner be denying the faith by even suggesting some may need more than their faith in God and    fellowship?

-How about psychotherapeutic medications such as anti-depressants, anti-anxiety meds, or psychotropic medications?

Would love to hear what we think.

Thank you,

YBIC

It sounds as though the question is somewhat loaded, and that is a bigger problem. I believe the way we need to look at things should be through the eyes of Christ, what will help the individual the most and still adhere to the teachings of the scripture.

I think that sometimes people get to a place where they have problems that they can not get through.

That being said sometimes this situation is caused by sin or weak faith. I'm not condemning, you can still repent:).

I believe that the scriptures have what we need combined w/other relationships, but I also believe that circumstances come about that are out of our control. An example would be a disciple I know who was in my eyes to the point of demon possessed. She went to a christian psychologist( a disciple who believes that sometimes people do need medications). She also was put on meds. Received much counseling worked through the issues(some her own sin), and is now doing very well, is off the meds, even married w/children, and in leadership.

Another would be my children(and myself also) who have skin disorders, asthma, and allergies. No one has suggested that we stay away from doctors, or specialist. Although we do pray.

-I think that we must all walk our own walk while keeping to the scriptures to the best of our abilities, and w/the help of our friends and God we will all make it through to that glorious day when we see our savior and are healed of all that ails us.

1 I don't know

2 No (but they do have the spirit)

3 No(my belief)

4a I think it's best if they are

4b No/yes(some may move to meds. to quickly thus denying the faith)

5  Sometime needed

Hope this helps, and to all in tough situations/ circumstances may God guide you to those who can help you in your time of need.

Brett

Hebrews 4

14Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens,[e] Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. 16Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

I like your reply. thank you and sorry for my delay in responding. I posted this because I had heard that a leader had disuaded a disciple who badly needed psychological help from getting it. I was very upset. That disciple ended up leaving.
