Red Cross Appeals to HOPEww for 1200 Volunteers for Hurricane Gustav Relief PDF Print Email

by Antonio Boyd - HOPEworldwide - Sunday, 31 August 2008

The Red Cross made an urgent appeal to HOPEworldwide for 1,200 volunteers. Hurricane Gustav could be worse than the devastaing Hurricane Katrina of 2005. Evacuations are already occurring. ICOC volunteers are needed urgently. Medical and health care professionals are requested. Donations are also needed. See this article for more detail and an interview with Antonio Boyd, HOPEww Vice-President of North American Programs.

Over 1 million people have been evacuated from the affected regions of the Gulf Coast.

Members of the International Churches of Christ are the core volunteers for HOPEworldwide who have gained the confidence of organizations like the Red Cross.

Volunteers are needed in shelters in these cities:

300 Dallas, Texas

300 San Antonio, Texas

100 Shreveport, Louisiana

200 Alexandria, Louisiana

150 Montgomery, Alabama

150 Hattiesburg, Mississippi
