How God speaks to us today in modern day?

Bible? Which one? Old Testament? It was addressed or written to Israel or the Jews. New Testament? It was addressed or written to the Early Churches or Early Christians.

Leaders? Which one?

Holy Spirit? How?

Newspaper? O...never...Yell

Come on! Lets study and discuss together!

I believe that God does speak to me today. One way he speaks to me is through the Bible (OT & NT).

Heb 1 talks about how God spoke through the prophets to our forefathers but now speaks to us by Jesus. Rom 15 & 1Cor 10 tell me that when I read the O.T. (God's Word) I learn (So God is teaching me) from others' mistakes so as to not make them myself. We should all know Heb 4 & 2Tim 3 but I also like Rom 15 because it talks about how God encourages us through the Scriptures .

Heb 1:1-2 In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.

1Cor 10:11These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come.

Rom 15:4-5 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.  May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus

I agree that God speaks to us through the Bible - that's called God's Word so it must be what He says to us.

But I also believe that God can speak to us by two more ways: through the Holy Spirit which He granted to us (do you sometimes when you pray or when you have some dilemma have such a feeling as if somebody was whispering the "right" answer to you?) and through people around us, both disciples and non-disciples. My parents who are not disciples sometimes say such challenging things to me)

This is a good question. I agree with bdpem42 and luchik.

I have to get personal conviction from Bible how God can speak to me: through the Word, Holy Spirit, through other people, situations aso. When i dont get that conviction, i might get confused about God or misread the Bible.

I believe Word of God is still "living and active" (Heb 4:12). God is speaking. Old Testament and New Testament was God's word for them and is also God's word for us now. Its a step closer to know what God wants to say to me when i get to know more The OT and NT. Not just for knowledge, but how it can change life.

In Hebrew, the Word happens to people. See Micah 1:1 for example, where the word translated came (niv) is the verb "to be", sounds like hi-ya :)

What if I say that YES from the Bible we find the blueprint, the pictures or the patterns of God's Characters, Heart, Mind, Soul or Thoughts through the histories or what was written in Old Testament and New Testament so that we can extract the essenses, the principals, and the values.

But, doesn't mean that God speaks to us directly, personally or even specifically. Should God ask us what time we will wake up in the morning? What time we are going to work? When we go to bed or shower? And many other silly thing in our lifes.

What do you think?Smile
