Baseball Hall of Famer Ted Williams said in talking about hitting a baseball "Baseball is the only sport where you are considered a star if you fail 70 % of the time." The fact is, sharing your faith is not so different. I have shared my faith with over 100,000 people, but of those 100,000 people only about 50 of them have studied the Bible and only about 25 have been baptized. Thats a success rate of 0.025 %. This can be discouraging to us. We can be tempted to stop sharing our faith, due to us stopping to believe that we can make any difference. Like Ted Williams, we just have to accept the fact that even the best of the best fail the majority of the time. Knowing this, we can prepare our hearts to handle this failure and make even more effort to find that 1 person in every 2000 people that we meet, that will study the Bible with us and that 1 person in every 4000 that will be baptized. It's not easy. It can easily tempt us to give up, but like Ted Williams, we can make every effort, and maybe even change those odds. It should be noted that in 1941 Ted Williams had a batting average of .406 (a 60 % failure rate, rather than 70 %) as he changed the odds. So can you. Just realize that you cannot sit around and dwell over all the "no" responses that will come your way, and that you need to move on to the next person. It's easy. Just open your mouth and invite people. If they say "no", go find somebody else. Ted Williams made a difference, why can't you.
